WorkSafeBC observes the Day of Mourning each year to remember workers who have lost their lives as the result of workplace injury, illness, or disease.
In 2007, 139 B.C. workers did not go home at the end of their workday. Of the 139 accepted work-related fatality claims, 71 were the result of occupational disease and six were young workers between the ages of 15 and 24.
