BC Trucking Safety Council

TruckOn September 18, WorkSafeBC and the BC Trucking Association (BCTA) will launch the BC Trucking Safety Council (BCTSC), an organization dedicated to improving health and safety in B.C.’s trucking industry.

In the five years between 2003 and 2007, 63 workers died and 281 were seriously injured in the general trucking and moving and storage sectors, with claim costs exceeding $170 million. One of the BCTSC’s first projects will be a study that seeks to identify the magnitude and characteristics of truck accidents in B.C. and compare them with other jurisdictions.

The BCTSC’s mandate includes consulting with the industry, developing measurable prevention interventions, and facilitating a Certificate of Recognition program for the trucking industry.
