some examples of recent successful lawsuits.
Painter awarded $1 million
A painter from Sydney, Australia was awarded more than $1 million damages
after injuring his back when he fell from a ladder. The painter sued his
employer when the ladder he was using fell, leaving him with severe back
injuries.
New York asbestos lawsuit sees $47 million verdict
A New York jury awarded $47 million to a 54 year-old boilermaker who suffers
from a severe form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. The boilermaker
had sued two New York utilities.
$16 million industrial accident award believed
to have set Indiana record
A jury awarded $16 million to an Indiana man whose foot was amputated
as a result of an industrial accident. The employer was held responsible.
Injured barge worker settles lawsuit for $10 million
A worker who suffered serious head injuries while working on the Ohio
River received a $10 million settlement from his employer. The settlement
is believed to be highest ever awarded to an injured barge worker.
West Virginia light bulb workers sue
Workers at a light bulb manufacturing factory filed a class action lawsuit
against the plant's current and former owners, alleging the companies
knowingly exposed employees to mercury, arsenic, and other toxic materials.
