The 2008 figures reflect an average published base rate of $1.56 per $100 of employers’ assessable payroll, 7.5 percent less than the 2007 rate of $1.69.
The average published base rate is a composite of rates in 68 individual rate groups. During 2008, approximately 73 percent of B.C. employers will see base rates decline, 11 percent will see rates stay the same, while 16 percent will experience base rate increases.

Industries with base rate decreases
Base rates are decreasing for most industries, the most notable of which include forestry; construction; hospitals; hotels; general trucking; shipbuilding; sawmills and paper mills; general retail, distribution centres and warehouses; open pit mining; motion picture production; electric utilities; high-tech and light industrial manufacturing.
Industries with base rate increases
Some industries will see base rate increases in 2008, including bus lines, ferry services, convenience stores, furniture and flooring stores, greenhouses, coffee shops, and gas utilities.
