WorkSafeBC announces 2007 base rates

The 2007 figures reflect an average published base rate of $1.69 per $100 of employers’ assessable payroll, 10.8 percent less than the 2006 rate of $1.90.

The reduction reflects recent years’ trends of stable injury rates and lower duration of injuries, but is largely due to WorkSafeBC’s very strong investment returns.

The average published base rate is a composite of rates in 87 individual rate groups. During 2007, approximately 68 percent of B.C.’s 184,000 employers will see base rates decline, 10 percent will see rates stay the same, while 22 percent will experience base rate increases.
