The 2005 base rates reflect an aggregate base rate of $1.975 per $100 of employer's assessable payroll, 4.1 percent less than the 2004 rate of $2.059.
The rate reduction is possible because of cost savings realized through legislative change introduced in 2002, improved performance of world financial markets, and the continuing downward trend in the injury rate. Together, these have resulted in lower costs for workplace injuries.
The aggregate rate is a composite of rates in 94 individual rates groups.
During 2005, 56 percent of B.C.'s 175,000-plus employers will see base
rates remain the same or drop while 44 percent will experience base rate
increases.
