label
Includes a mark, sign, device, stamp, seal, sticker, ticket, tag or wrapper.

landing
The area where the yarder or loader is placed, and logs are yarded or skidded for sorting and preparing for transport.

lanyard
A flexible line of webbing, or synthetic or wire rope, that is used to secure a safety belt or full body harness to a lifeline or anchor.

lifejacket
A device that, when worn correctly, provides a specified buoyancy that will turn the wearer face-up on entering the water, and will keep the wearer in this position.
lifeline
A rope of 16 mm (5/8 in) diameter, of polypropylene or other synthetic fibre of at least equal strength, which is secured to the diver and to a permanent fixture at the surface.

lifeline
A synthetic or wire rope, rigged from one or more anchors, to which a worker's lanyard or other part of a personal fall protection system is attached.

lift tree
A tree rigged to support running lines.

light duty
Intended to support workers, their personal hand tools and material for immediate use only.

live boating
The support of a surface supplied diver from a vessel under way.

local lighting
A light fixture or array of fixtures that provides illumination over a small area such as a service counter in a warehouse, without providing any significant general lighting in the surrounding area.

lock-out submersible (Or Los)
A self-propelled submersible fitted with a submersible compression chamber from which a diving operation can be carried out and that has a separate one atmosphere chamber from which the submersible is operated.

lockout
The use of a lock or locks to render machinery or equipment inoperable or to isolate an energy source in accordance with a written procedure.
low hazard atmosphere
An atmosphere which is shown by pre-entry testing or otherwise known to contain clean respirable air immediately prior to entry to a confined space and which is not likely to change during the work activity, as determined by a qualified person after consideration of the design, construction and use of the confined space, the work activities to be performed, and all engineering controls required by this Regulation.

low risk work activity
Work activity in proximity to friable asbestos-containing material, where the material is not disturbed and there is no significant release of asbestos fibre.

low voltage
A potential difference (voltage) from 31 to 750 volts inclusive, between conductors or between a conductor and ground.

lower explosive limit
The minimum concentration of combustible gas or vapour in air, expressed as a percentage by volume, that will ignite if a source of ignition is present.

luminance
The amount of light reflected by a surface at a given angle.
