electrical equipment
Includes machinery, plant, works, wires, pipes, poles, conduits,
apparatus, appliances and equipment, designed or used, or intended for use,
for or in connection with generation, transmission, supply, distribution or
use of electrical energy for any purpose.
electrical worker
A person who meets the requirements of the Electrical Safety
Act for installing, altering or maintaining electrical equipment.
electrofishing
The capture or control of fish by the use of electrical equipment.
elevating work platform
A work platform or aerial device which self-elevates to overhead
work locations and includes other similar devices not covered elsewhere in the
Regulation.
emergency breathing supply
The bailout bottle carried by the diver and may include the
high pressure breathing medium bottle carried on the diving stage.
emergency incident
A specific emergency operation of a fire department or industrial
fire brigade.
Employer Service Centre
Section of the WCB that can answer all your assessment related questions.
Employers' Advisers
The Employers' Advisers are independent of the WCB and are available to provide assistance or clarification of an assessment decision relating to your firm.
Employer Payroll and Contract Labour Report
Sometimes called the 1810 form, the Employer Payroll and Contract
Labour Report is sent annually to all employers so they can reconcile their
account with the WCB.
Employer's Remittance Form
Sometimes called the 1820 form, the Employer's Remittance Form is the payroll reporting tool for quarterly accounts.
encapsulation
Treatment of an asbestos-containing material or surface with
a sealant which penetrates the material and binds the fibres together.
enclosure
Isolation of asbestos-containing material from adjacent occupied
areas in a building by physical barriers such as gyproc, plywood, or metal sheeting,
to prevent the release of airborne asbestos fibres into these areas.
enclosure
A room, cabinet or separation designed to contain equipment,
machinery and vessels and to isolate accidental releases of toxic gas.
enclosure
A temporary or permanent enclosure of a work area provided
with exhaust ventilation and makeup air to reduce exposure of workers inside
the enclosure and prevent the uncontrolled release of air contaminants from
the enclosure.
energy isolating device
A device that physically prevents the transmission or release
of an energy source to machinery or equipment.
energy source
Any electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical,
thermal, or other source of energy of potential harm to workers.
engineering controls
The physical arrangement, design or alteration of workstations,
equipment, materials, production facilities or other aspects of the physical
work environment, for the purpose of controlling risk.
entitlement officer
These officers adjudicate and make the entitlement decision
on complex trauma claims.
equivalent dose
The amount of ionizing radiation (in mSv) absorbed by a specific
body part and adjusted for the energy level and type of radiation.
ETV
An emergency transportation vehicle meeting the requirements
of sections 33.30 and 33.31.
excavation
Any cut, cavity, trench or depression in the earth's surface
resulting from rock or soil removal.
exclusion zone
The workplace at the surface from which divers are tended
during a contaminated diving operation.
experience rating
The WCB's experience rating plan is designed to reward workplace
safety. It provides discounts of up to 50 percent and surcharges of up to 100
percent on your base rate, based on the cost of your claims relative to your
payroll - over a period of time.
experience rating adjustment
This is the discount or surcharge you will receive on your
base rate. It is based on how your claim costs compare to those of your peers.
Basically, the safer you are and the lower your claim costs, the less you pay.
explosive
A substance that is made, manufactured or used to produce
an explosion or detonation, including but not limited to blasting explosives,
pyrotechnic devices and accessories containing explosives.
