To address the many medical and policy issues that WorkSafeBC officers deal with regularly, WorkSafeBC has established an evidence-based workgroup. Members apply established techniques of critical appraisal and evidence-based review of topics solicited from both WorkSafeBC staff and other interested parties like surgeons, medical specialists, and rehabilitation providers.
Since 2007, WorkSafeBC’s Evidence-Based Practice Group has been a partner organization to Cochrane Canada, the national centre of the Cochrane Collaboration. The Cochrane Collaboration is a worldwide network of people helping healthcare providers, policy makers, patients, and their advocates and caregivers make well informed decisions about health care by preparing, updating, and promoting the accessibility of Cochrane Reviews.
To identify relevant topics that upon review will provide clarification of existing practices, or alter practices based on up-to-date evidence. The results are shared with WorkSafeBC officers and health care providers.
