Massage therapist billing

Billing

Massage therapists have two ways of billing WorkSafeBC.

1. Electronically via Teleplan

Follow the usual procedure for MSP Teleplan. Even if you have opted out of MSP billing, you can still use Teleplan to invoice WorkSafeBC.

2. Manually by faxing or mailing a paper form to WorkSafeBC

Please submit your Invoice for Treatment Services (PDF 70kb) to WorkSafeBC by fax at 604 279-7590 or 1 888 922-8807, or by mail to:

PO Box 94460 Stn Main
Richmond BC   V6X 8V6

A Massage Therapy Billing Guide has been created to help with billing WorkSafeBC.

Note: Effective August 1, 2005 a $4:50 line item charge will be applied to paper invoices.

Limitations

  • Services must be provided by a registered massage therapist.
  • WorkSafeBC will pay for only those areas accepted under the claim. If an injured worker requests additional treatment, you can charge that worker your rate for this service, but you must explain this to the worker before you perform the service.
  • We do not pay for more than one treatment per day.
  • WorkSafeBC will not reimburse workers for user fees. If a worker's claim is accepted after treatment has begun, reimburse the user fee to the worker, then bill WorkSafeBC as outlined in the fee schedule.
  • If a patient who is treated privately subsequently has their claim accepted, WorkSafeBC is limited by the fee schedule in reimbursing the worker.

Fee schedule

Whether you have opted in or out, the Massage Therapists Association requires you to bill WorkSafeBC rates when providing service to injured workers. Services other than massage, or fees over-and-above those listed on the fee schedule, will not be covered.

Items covered under WorkSafeBC fee schedule:

Fee code Description
19150 Initial treatment - only billed once per Worker
19151 Subsequent Visit

GST

As a provincially legislated agency, WorkSafeBC is GST exempt.
