Acupuncture billing and reporting

Billing

Upon approval, WorkSafeBC will cover the cost of up to five acupuncture treatments over a two week period. Additional treatments will not be covered without a treatment extension approved from the injured worker's case manager. Please invoice using the generic invoice - medical and health care.

Fee schedule

WorkSafeBC pays the following rates for acupuncture treatment:

  • The physiotherapist is paid at the subsequent visit rate.
  • The family physician can provide acupuncture as part of the office visit, as fee item 00100. There is no extra fee or tray fee for acupuncture.
  • Payment for those Registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia will be paid at the family physician rate of $30.13. Please quote fee item code 1100600.

Fees for acupuncture is only reimbursed for those professions listed above.

When treatment is complete, fax your invoice and a Treatment Report to WorkSafeBC at 604 276-3195 or toll-free at 1 888 922-3299.

GST and PST

As a provincially legislated body, WorkSafeBC is GST-exempt. We will, however, pay PST when applicable.

Rejected billings

If there is a problem with one of your invoices, you will be notified. If you need help in understanding where the problem lies, contact the WorkSafeBC Health Care Services Payment Office.

Reporting

When the last treatment is complete, submit a copy of the Treatment Report to WorkSafeBC, with appropriate injury codes (see below), and objective outcome measures of the acupuncture treatment received by the injured worker.

Physiotherapists and Physicians should use report 268 and Form 11 respectively.

Registered acupunturists may use Form 83D51 Generic Report - Medical and Health Care.
