Massage Therapy
Important information for workers
- Prior to attending registered massage therapy you’ll need a referral from your physician. You must notify the massage therapist that the injury happened at work, and is related to a WorkSafeBC claim.
- If you receive massage therapy while your claim is pending you may be asked to pay for treatment yourself. If your claim is accepted you should seek reimbursement from the therapist. The therapist will then reimburse you and bill WorkSafeBC for treatment related to your claim. If the massage therapist refuses to reimburse you, please contact WorkSafeBC at 604 276-3085 or toll free at 1 888 422-2228.
- Once your claim is accepted, the massage therapist should bill WorkSafeBC directly for all treatments related to your claim. If you pay for any treatments once your claim has been accepted, you will only be reimbursed $30 dollars per visit, regardless of how much you paid to the therapist.
- Within the first eight weeks from the date of injury, treatment can be up to three visits a week for a maximum of five weeks.
- You can get help finding a massage therapist by contacting the Massage Therapist’s Association of British Columbia at 604 873-4467 or toll free at 1 888 413-4467.
