Advanced search tips

The advanced search function, like the basic search function, allows you to look for a word or a phrase by typing it in the text box and clicking Search.

In addition, the advanced search function allows you to refine your search by selecting the:

  • Year the decision was rendered
  • Category the decision falls under

You do not need to enter a search phrase when using the advanced search. This way you can generate lists of decisions that match a given year and category (e.g. all of the Criminal Injury decisions for 1999).

The advanced search function also enables you to choose the way the search results are sorted:

  • by decision date (in descending order, most recent decisions first)
  • by category
  • by rating
  • by title

Step-by-step guide to do an advanced search:

  1. Type the word or phrase (including all required expressions, symbols, or characters) in the text box
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Year(s): list box and select the year you want
  3. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Sort By: list box and select the sort option you want
  4. Look over all available categories and select the appropriate check box
  5. Click Select All if you want all categories selected or Reset if you change your mind and wish to redo the category selection.
  6. Click Search to submit your search criteria
