Mental disorders

On May 31, 2012, the B.C. legislature passed Bill 14, Workers Compensation Amendment Act, 2011, which amends Section 5.1 of the Workers Compensation Act, changing coverage for mental disorders caused by work. 

The changes, which took effect on July 1, 2012, apply to all decisions made by WorkSafeBC or the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal on or after that date.

Bullying and harassment in the workplace

At the same time as the Bill 14 legislation relating to mental disorders was introduced, changes to occupational health and safety ("OHS") policies relating to bullying and harassment were also developed. For more information on these policies, which are from a prevention perspective, read the discussion paper and proposed new OHS policies.
