WorkSafeBC is presently seeking dedicated individuals with keen insight and analytical skills to join our Worker & Employer Services - Prevention team.

Playing a meaningful part in the prevention of workplace injury and disease, you will ensure compliance with relevant occupational regulations and assist industry in reducing workplace injuries/occupational diseases by inspecting workplaces, consulting with and educating employers and workers on occupational health and safety matters, and partnering with industry to ensure the success of safety initiatives.

The Occupational Safety Officer (OSO) is responsible for inspecting assigned employers' premises to ensure that a safe work environment is being maintained, that work procedures and practices are consistent with modern accident prevention techniques, that first aid services and equipment meet current criteria, that no potential safety or health hazards to workers are permitted to exist, that employers and workers are apprised of their responsibilities, for writing orders published by WorkSafeBC in compliance with the Workers Compensation Act, conducting research, participating in seminars, lecturing on Accident Prevention; and advising employers, workers, and professional personnel on matters related to accident prevention. The OSO is required to provide advice and expertise within and outside of their area(s) of specific industry focus.

In addition, the OSO will possess a:

  • Working knowledge of workplace technology, and industrial processes in the designated industry focus of the position applied for.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety issues and concerns related to various work environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct worksite inspections and/or identify hazards within the industry specialization and recommend or implement corrective safety measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to make and enforce timely decisions independently based on gathered information using sound judgement and knowledge and the ability to effectively deal with emergencies as necessary.

Candidates must also have a minimum of 5 years' directly related industry experience. While equivalencies will be considered, a diploma in Health & Safety is preferred. Salary range of $65,876 - $83,143 plus comprehensive benefits are offered.
