This report constitutes a workbook designed to:

  1. Identify Injury Risk Factors associated with the following Hospitality Industry Positions:
    1. Bartending
    2. Bell Services
    3. Cooking
    4. Stewarding
    5. Front Desk
    6. Housekeeping
    7. Table Service
    Including Task Specific Posture Checklist, Body Part Comfort Questionnaire and Guidance Sheet.
  2. Injury Tracking System
  3. Return to Work Strategies
  4. Stretching Programs

Major Themes contained in this workbook include:

  1. Ergonomic interventions decrease risk of injury.
  2. Teamwork is essential for ergonomic intervention success.
  3. Ergonomic programs should be integrated with other workplace injury prevention strategies.
  4. Multiple causes of musculoskeletal injuries exist, including: Force, Repetition, Static and Awkward Postures, Lack of Rest, Vibration, Temperature, Lack of Protective Equipment (ie., gloves) and Work Duration.
  5. Effective Preventive Measures for Musculoskeletal Injuries include: Education & Training, Engineering & Administrative Controls, and Personal Protective Equipment.

Based on this research, the Workers' Compensation Board has further developed these draft brochures which will be available through Publications and Videos.
