Research - Societal Change in Occupational Health and Safety

In order to identify effective methods for increasing awareness and changing beliefs, attitudes and behaviours in a way that will reduce and eventually eliminate work-related injury, illness and death, WorkSafeBC has funded five projects on societal change in occupational health and safety. These projects include:

  • A systematic review of the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of social marketing campaigns on occupational health and safety.
  • A study comparing the content of social marketing campaigns in North American jurisdictions and testing a sample of these materials on a group of young male B.C. workers.
  • Three studies looking at attitudinal and behavioral barriers in the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss, infectious diseases, and musculoskeletal injuries in the construction industry.
