The Nature and Format of Regulations and the Variance System
In response to stakeholder concerns, WorkSafeBC will maintain a balance of prescriptive regulations (rules-based) and performance-based regulations (results-based).
In order to accommodate the need for flexibility in regulations, initial steps have been taken to improve stakeholder understanding of the variance system. A new Variance Process — Occupational Health & Safety Guideline has been developed to help clarify the applicable requirements for variance applications to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
