Bill C-45: Setting Clear Protocols
Bill C-45, which came into effect in March 2004, amended the Criminal Code of Canada to expand the ability of authorities to charge identified individuals and organizations with criminal negligence for failing to take reasonable steps to prevent workplace injuries. In order to ensure that clear protocols are in place to govern the interface between WorkSafeBC and Police Services for prosecutions under Bill C-45, a Memorandum of Understanding was recently finalized between the relevant parties.
