Additional Staff and Funding for Prevention Activities

In recent years, WorkSafeBC has ramped up its resources for prevention activities. There are more safety officers on staff (an 11% increase between 2004 and 2005), and there has been a substantial increase in enforcement activities. In fact, over the same time period, there has been a 27% increase in the number of inspections, a 55% increase in the number of orders written, and a 59% increase in the number of investigations completed.

Furthermore, the BOD has recently approved a budget which includes additional staff and/or funds in order to achieve the following:

  • Provide additional education and consultative services
  • Strengthen field inspections and investigations, particularly in high risk areas.
  • Apply sanctions in a more timely manner
  • Administer financial incentives
  • Develop more industry partnerships
  • Refine the Focus on Safety program
  • Develop and implement a social marketing campaign that takes all of us from awareness to action.
